Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival
Invernesshire, UK.
2-4 August 2018
The far north of Scotland will be rocking at next weekend’s Belladrum festival, here are our picks from the line-up at this smaller, family-friendly event;
Paloma Faith headlines, as do Primal Scream who come home to Scotland having been all around the world this year. Festival scene stalwarts The Charlatans are guaranteed to put on a solid set and it would be great to hear a couple of tracks from their new EP “Totally Eclipsing”.
Hunter and the Bear are one of the most exciting young rock bands in the UK at the moment and this will be their final festival appearance this summer. It seems as though you can bump into the Fun Lovin’ Criminals at most smaller festivals in the UK this year but they continue to be a big draw wherever they go.
The Snuts are currently taking Scotland by storm and if you like the Arctic Monkeys or early Oasis, they are worth checking out. Don’t let Lucy Spraggan’s fame from her appearance on the X-Factor put you off. Her songs are folky with the occasional bit of a Mike Skinner northern rap vibe, real, raw and sometimes funny, hopefully she treats the crowd to “Jeremy Kyle”, my personal favourite and perfect for a festival.
If its a bit of electronic indie you want then don’t miss The Little Kicks or change gear and go for a bit of country from The Tumbling Souls. If, like me you can’t resist your punk with an irish accent and a bodhran be sure to check out The Rumjacks and since they have travelled all the way from Australia, you need to catch them while you can. Lastly in a spirit of festival discovery give The Burning Hell a chance. I’d love to tell you what to expect from them, but as their ever changing style means it could be anything, it will certainly be interesting.
Belladrum may not be the biggest festival this summer, or even this weekend, but it’s got loads to offer Scottish music fans.
