We had the opportunity to interview rising alt-star Palehound! Check out our interview with her and be sure to check out her most recent album 'Black Friday'!
1. How did you come to pursue music and how long have you been at it?
"My Dad loves music and is a musician and music was very important in our household. I started playing guitar when I was seven and he gave me lessons"
2. Could you walk us through your process of writing music?
"It's changed over the years, in the beginning I would figure it out on the spot. It's funny because I feel now I've become less organized over time. Now I have a bunch of voice memos and notes and I'll put them together. It's kinda puzzle."
3. What artists have inspired you in your career?
"Kim Deal, Elliot Smith, Beck, West Montgomery as a guitar player, Jimi Hendrix as a guitar player, a lot of different things really".
4. Do you have any favorite music gear (guitars, amps, effects pedals, keyboards, etc.) that you love to use? If so, what’s the story on them?
"I just got a Fender Stratocaster that I'm obsessed with. It completely revitalized me. Critter and Safari exatvox, it's this little synth I use all the time. Casio Tone 701 keyboard that I love a lot. El Capistan delay pedal."
5. Can you describe the vibe at your live shows? Also, what do you enjoy most about a venue when you do a show?
"The vibe of the live shows is a lot of queer people, which is really cool. I love my fans a lot, everyone's really respectful and joyous at the show. I try to create a space where people can feel comfortable and emote. That's been the vibe recently."
"My favorite thing about venues is good monitors".
6. What is one thing that you want the public to know about your music?
"As much as music is a self indulgent thing. I really do make music for others and try to make things that will help someone. That's really important to me. I think a lot about if I was a fan going through something what I would need. I value connection."
7. Can you tell us about the inspiration and the writing and recording process for your album Black Friday?
"I had a lot of ideas of new things I wanted to do from my previous two albums. I had a really clear idea about how I wanted to record it. I wanted to make something truly genuine. I wanted to go into Black Friday with a better idea of how I wanted to communicate".
8. What's next on the horizon for Palehound?
"It's a secret and it's a collaboration. I am touring starting February 27th, we're headlining and touring with Adult Mom"
