Album Review: Michigander - 'Michigander'

It's been a while since we've been this excited for the debut LP of an artist. But then again, there haven't been that many artists that have put in the kind of work that Jason Singer has put into his music. Michigander (Singer) has already had enormous exposure, through a series of high profile EP's and festival slots including Austin City Limits Music Festival and Lollapalooza. Singer has established himself as a cutting edge, indie singer songwriter, and producer for whom the sky is the limit.

Singer's trademark honest lyricism, catchy hooks, and dance worthy rhythms are present on his self-titled effort and we're here for it. What Singer is able to accomplish in twelve songs is truly magnificent as he takes the listener on a sonic journey that can be fast-paced or slowed down. Regardless of where he takes you, Singer is able to do this in quick bursts as each song typically ranges between two and three minutes.

Michigander shows the polished product of a singer/songwriter who has mastered his craft at an early stage in his career. While there's always room to grow, one has to think that through concentrating on building a fan base through EP's, singles, and festival appearances, if Singer worked out some of the kinks that traditionally plague other debut LP's. What's clear here is that this one is a winner and we'll be coming back to it again and again.
