Album Review: Wilderado - 'Talker'

Site favorites and super nice guys Wilderado are back with another LP dropping this Friday titled Talker! We are excited as this band are usually up for bringing energetic melodies, bright vocals, and a nice blend of Americana, indie, and alt to their sound. Talker builds upon everything the band has done so far. It features melodies that are guitar driven with Max Rainer's signature twang vocal style laid on top. What's so great about the band's unique sound is that Rainer's vocal range is pretty significant, which gives the rest of the band a lot of room to play with melody stylings. Talker is similar in this element. Their song "Simple" on the album is anything but. With layered vocals, fantastic guitar work, and melodies that are perfect for an afternoon drive.

I am always particularly fond of Wilderado's ability to assemble a complete melody including rhythm, lead, and drums. This is no more apparent on this album for me than on "Higher Than Most", the leads on this shine so bright it made me smile when I first heard them.

Talker is yet another album from Wilderado that is complete from top to bottom. It shows why this band received a special showcase on Austin City Limits Music Festival's telecast and have had the opportunity to open for alt greats such as Catfish & the Bottleman and Mt. Joy. This is a nice starting point if you're new to the band as it encapsulates everything that they are all about. They continue to grow on each album. Talker is certain to be included in our end of the year album list.
