We're back with another edition of Collector's Corner for you! We're revisiting old friends thanks to Art Alexakis and Intervention Records! This time, we're checking out the rerelease of Everclear's 1995 platinum selling smash success Sparkle and Fade! Thanks to Alexakis and Team Intervention Records, we have a copy of this one to review for you and it has all the bells and whistles. The album includes all 14 of the original tracks included on the album, with special nods to “Santa Monica,” “Heroin Girl” and “Heartspark Dollar Sign.”
The album art famously features childhood photographs of Alexakis (vocals/guitar), Craig Montoya (bass), and Greg Eklund (drums). The cover and other jacket art are beautifully restored on a deluxe old style single-pocket gatefold printed by Stoughton on heavy stock. In contrast with the cover the rest of the photos on the jacket features the band at the height of their power in '95 the year of the album's release.
For the record that comes with this release, you receive a 180-Gram black vinyl pressed in Cleveland, OH at Gotta Groove Records. The surface noise is as quiet as a church mouse on this release as you're solely getting unabashed 90's alt-rock goodness, no pops here! The songs follow themes of addiction and love that are similar to Alexakis' journey to sobriety and fame. The tracks are reborn thanks to a remaster from Kevin Gray at CoHEARent Audio.
Once again, if you're looking for a gift for the musically inclined person in your life, this album would make a great one. You can find it here, direct from Intervention Records or you can double down and get a bundle of Sparkle and Fade and Everclear's 1997 multi-platinum release So Much for the Afterglow, the bundle is even on sale (click here)! We've said it before and we'll say it again, Intervention Records are taking great care in restoring music for vinyl collectors!
