Walking into KEMBA Live for my first time in many years, as well as my first time covering a show, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It certainly was a night of firsts for me as I’ve never seen Taylor Acorn, Boys Like Girls or Dashboard Confessional live.
Opening the evening, an extremely energetic Taylor Acorn wowed the crowd with her vibrant stage presence and powerful vocals. Taylor had zero problems captivating her audience as the crowd enthusiastically sang along with her. It was easy to tell she was as excited about performing in Columbus as we were to be watching her.
Up next was Boys Like Girls and I don’t think I’ve ever seen an energy transfer from band to crowd quite as powerful as what took place when they were on stage. Everyone in attendance hung on to every lyric and at times it was difficult to tell where the pit ended and the lawn began. There wasn’t one stationary member of the audience (or KEMBA crew member for that matter) for a second while they played. Finishing their set with The Great Escape, I was certain this crowd was going to tear this place down.
Finally, Dashboard Confessional took the stage to pour their hearts into their music and they didn’t stop there. Frontman and guitarist Chris Carrabba took the time to interact with the crowd between songs showing his passion not only for his songs but his audience. Throughout the night they were full of energy as they played their hits which included two of my personal faves, “Stolen” and “Vindicated”.
